Maandagmorgen 63 boten aan de startlijn voor het Rolex IMS Offshore World Championship!
Na 40 minuten wachten op de zeebries kon om 12u40 het 1ste startschot gegeven worden voor al deze IMS racebakken. Met 8 tot 14 knopen wind uit het westen en een zee zo glad als Lambik zijne kletskop hadden de crews een korte maar schitterende introductie naar de weekseries toe.
Twee Bottin - Carkeek ontwerpen, X-Sport en Italetel waren de niet te kloppen racepaarden in Class Alpha & bravo. Ze konden beiden van een dubbele 1ste plaats genieten.
"We are very happy with both our results today, particularly because this boat is brand new and we have had absolutely no time so far to sail and learn how it works. We had a fantastic start and the crew sailed well. I believe we made a small mistake on the first run of the first race, we set a gennaker instead of the spinnaker, I guess this is from lack of experience with the boat, but I feel we are a strong team and we can only get better from here."
Gabriele Benussi, schipper van de Grand Soleil 56R X-Sport, Class Alpha winnaar en overall leader.
"This was a difficult and technical race. Our class has boats of exactly the same performance and there is absolutely no room for any errors. ." Lorenzo Bressani, stuurman van de Wind, second place overall, Class Bravo.
